Description
**Botanical name:** Commiphora myrrha
**Plant part:** Resin
**Extraction method:** CO2 extraction
**Specific Characteristics:** The organic Myrrh essential oil is a yellow-green liquid with a warm and spicy sweet aroma accompanied by woody notes. The main components (in percentages of 70-90%) are sesquiterpene derivatives, including sesquiterpene hydrocarbons and furanosesquiterpenes.
**Applications:** Organic Myrrh essential oil, native to dry and tropical regions of Africa, is traditionally used for local treatment of mild inflammations of the oral mucosa such as aphthous ulcers, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, common cold, and gingivitis. It is also used for treating menopausal symptoms, arthritis pain, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, jaundice, and indigestion.
Squalene, a component of skin sebum, is exposed to the external environment and plays a crucial role in skin physiology. Therefore, it is highly susceptible to photo-oxidation when exposed to sunlight. The local application of organic Myrrh essential oil shows excellent protection against squalene oxidation from UV radiation.
Organic Myrrh essential oil is widely used in perfumes due to its characteristic aromatic, balsamic, warm, smoky, and earthy olfactory profile.
**CAUTION: Always use diluted in a carrier oil or other solvent.**
