Description: Clary Sage essential oil is obtained from the entire plant (Salvia sclarea) through the steam distillation process. The yield of essential oil from the plant material is low, reaching only 0.1%.

Special Characteristics: Clary Sage essential oil is a yellow and sometimes greenish liquid. It has an aromatic, spicy fragrance accompanied by lemon notes. The essential oil dissolves easily in alcohol (1:3, 90% ethanol), vegetable oils, and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. The main component is linalool, with geraniol and limonene present in smaller concentrations. The ingredient Sclareol is responsible for the amber-like scent.

Applications: The components of Clary Sage essential oil also have medicinal properties. Clary Sage was one of the most important sacred plants for the Celts. It was used to flavor wine and other drinks, providing an additional stimulating effect. Sclareol, a component of Clary Sage, has a structure similar to estrogen, and recent studies have shown that Clary Sage oil acts similarly to hormones. For this reason, it stimulates menstrual flow and can be used for amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), premenstrual syndrome (PMS), dysmenorrhea, and premenopausal discomfort. Massage, bath oils, and aromatic candles have been proven effective in application. In cases of PMS cramps, Clary Sage essential oil also has antispasmodic effects. For varicose veins, hemorrhoids, and circulatory disorders, Clary Sage oil may have a positive impact on the vascular system when applied as a patch or bath oil.

In aromatherapy, Clary Sage essential oil is used to soothe the central nervous system after nervous fatigue or general nervousness. It induces a strong sense of euphoria in depressive moods or postpartum depression. Simultaneously, Clary Sage essential oil reduces anxiety (anxiolytic), soothes general anxiety, and tension. It is recommended for use in massages, aromatic candles, and bath oils.
