Description: Lime essential oil is obtained from the entire fruit of the Lime tree (Citrus aurantifolia) through the process of expression (pressing).
Special Characteristics: Lime essential oil is a yellowish liquid. It has a fresh aroma accompanied by characteristic citrus and terpenoid notes. The main components of lime essential oil are limonene, γ-terpinene, and terpinolene. In smaller quantities, it contains p-cymene, α-terpineol, and isomeric pinenes.
Applications in Cosmetics: The components of lime essential oil also have medicinal characteristics. It has strong digestive action and can be used in general digestive disorders (indigestion) as a ointment or massage oil in the gastrointestinal area. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects of lime oil support not only digestion but also the immune system. Lime essential oil also has antiseptic action and can be used against colds. Here, the recommended application is rubbing in the respiratory area or with scented candles as a room scent. The scent of lime essential oil also works against nausea.
For the cosmetics industry, lime essential oil is used for the care of inflammatory, acne-prone skin as it is said to eliminate small pimples and redness. Also, due to its tightening action, lime essential oil is used in products against cellulite.
