Description: The essential oil of Lemon Balm is obtained from the leaves and stems of Lemon Balm (Melissa Oil indicum) through the process of steam distillation. It is known as the elixir of life.
Special Characteristics: Lemon Balm essential oil is a light yellow liquid. It has a soft and warm aroma with a hint of honey. The essential oil easily dissolves in alcohol (ethanol), carrier oils, and other essential oils. It hardly dissolves in water. Its main components are citral, a mixture of geranial and neral. In smaller concentrations, geraniol, citronellal, eugenol, limonene, and linalool are also present.
Applications: Lemon Balm essential oil is used against infections, fungal infections, eczema, and herpes simplex virus as it is said to be antiseptic and bactericidal. It is also applied against high blood pressure and irritability, calms the mind, and benefits the cardiovascular system.
Lemon Balm essential oil is used in aromatherapy for anxiety, stress, tension, insomnia as it is antidepressant, calming, and sedative.
Lemon Balm essential oil blends very well with: lavender, neroli, rose, chamomile, bergamot, cedarwood, geranium, jasmine, lemon, marjoram, and ylang-ylang.
