Description
**Description:** Patchouli essential oil is obtained from fresh leaves of the Patchouli shrub (Pogostemon cablin) through steam distillation. The yield of essential oil from the plant mass ranges between 1 and 4%.
**Special Characteristics:** Patchouli essential oil is a thick, dark yellow to brown liquid. It has a characteristic woody aroma with subtle notes of camphor. The main component is patchoulol. Norpatchoulenol is present in smaller quantities but is responsible for the distinctive scent.
**Applications:** Compounds in patchouli essential oil have a range of health-related properties. It is used as a plaster and in bath or massage oils.
Patchouli essential oil is used in cosmetics as an ingredient and stabilizer in men’s fragrances. It is also widely used in the scenting of soaps and cosmetics. Patchouli essential oil blends well with bergamot, cinnamon, pine, geranium, lavender, mandarin, sage, clove, neroli, rose, sandalwood, white fir, ylang-ylang, and cedarwood.
In aromatherapy, patchouli essential oil is commonly used. It is used in scented candles, bath oils, massage oils, or rubs.
