Description: Petit Grain essential oil is obtained from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium var. Amara) through steam distillation. The yield of essential oil from the plant material is between 0.15 and 0.25%.

Special Characteristics: Petit Grain essential oil is a yellow liquid. It has a strong, fresh, floral, and slightly spicy aroma, accompanied by characteristic citrus notes. The essential oil dissolves easily in alcohol (1:4 ethanol 70%), vegetable oils, and other essential oils. It is almost insoluble in water. The main component is linalyl acetate. Linalool, limonene, geranial, and geranyl acetate are found in significant concentrations.

Applications: Petit Grain essential oil is said to have antispasmodic action, so it is used in natural medicine as a massage oil for muscle cramps or menstrual cramps. Additionally, it is believed to have anti-inflammatory action on respiratory infections and can therefore be used through rubbing, inhalation, or as a bath oil. In the case of arthritis, application through rubbing can also have a positive effect on inflammation. Petit Grain essential oil is also said to be antibacterial, explaining its use in cases of acne and other skin conditions.

The fresh, invigorating aroma of Petit Grain essential oil, combined with its antibacterial properties, makes it ideal in skincare products such as toning face lotions, oils, or creams for acne-prone and inflammatory skin as it restores sebum production balance. Also, due to its floral scent, it is added to many fragrances, wellness baths, soaps, shampoos, and room fragrances.
