Description: The essential oil of anise is obtained by steam distillation of the fruit of Chinese Star Anise (Illicium verum).

Specific Characteristics: Anise essential oil is a colorless to light yellow, strong refractive liquid. The scent is described as sweet, spicy, and warm. The main compound, with a content of up to 90%, is trans-anethole, while the compound 1,4-cineole is present in lower concentrations. The oil can solidify at lower temperatures (below 14°C).

Applications in Cosmetics: In natural medicine, it is often administered for indigestion and bloating, and it is a popular ingredient in inhalations, medicinal teas, and cough syrups due to its expectorant properties.

For the cosmetics industry, anise essential oil is suitable for aromatic soaps, mouthwashes, and toothpaste. Anise oil is also used in perfumes, although infrequently.

In Aromatherapy, the distinctive aroma of Anise essential oil, resembling licorice, is said to relieve mental problems and provide a sense of calm and security.
